Bipolar Disorder Test

If you suspect you  might be suffering from bipolar disorder, test yourself with these questions.

PART ONE

1. Have you felt so good or so hyper that other people thought you were not your normal self or you were so hyper that you got in trouble?
2. Were you were so irritable that you shouted at people or started fights or arguments?
3. Have you felt much more self confident than usual?
4. Are you sometimes able to get by on very little amounts of sleep and you don’t seem to be affected?
5. Do you sometimes speak much faster than usual?
6. Do thoughts sometimes race so fast through your head that you can’t slow them down?
7. Do you have trouble concentrating on tasks?
8. Do you sometimes have much more energy than normal?
9. Are you sometimes much more active and productive than normal?
10. Are you sometimes so socially outgoing that your friends think that you are inappropriate?
11. Are you sometimes highly interested in sex?
12. Have you had thoughts or ideas that your friends say are foolish and risky?
13. Has spending too much money gotten you or your family into trouble?

PART TWO

1. If you answered yes to some of the previous questions, do these things seem to happen all during the same period of time?
2. How much of a problem do these things cause you?  Mild, Moderate or Serious?
3. Have any of your close relatives been diagnosed with bipolar disorder?
4. Has a health professional ever told you that you have bipolar disorder?

If you met the following three criteria on the bipolar disorder test, your screening is positive for bipolar disorder:

• “Yes” to 7 or more of the questions in Part One
• “Yes” to question 1 in Part Two
• “Moderate” or “Serious” to question 3 in Part Two

If you meet all three of these criteria, you might want to print out this bipolar disorder test and take it to your physician.  Your doctor will be able to refer you to someone for a full screening.
